I started this project to comment as a reflection of my internal state of mind. Often feeling trapped between rigid Chinese traditions and Canadian culture and between interdisciplinary art and photography; I question where my heart really belongs. By integrating a traditional Chinese brush painting with new digital technology I am able to comment on both issues of my heritage along with my frustration of being an interdisciplinary artist who chose photography as a major. At times feeling limited, Strokes of Identity allowed me to visualize a bigger picture about photography. I did not have to be restricted to only film and paper. As the two forms merge together, it becomes an experimental exploration of my identity.
