I found that I have always been interested in different cultures and outdoor activities. I became interested in snowboarders and snowboarding when I started working as a ski instructor. Using the camera gives me an opportunity to capture a moment in the snowboarders’ lives. By viewing these images and maybe understanding a little about them I gain a little more understanding about myself.

Snowboarding is mainly a youth oriented culture. By asking, “In one sentence give me an idea about snowboarding.”, I got spontaneous statements from the people I photographed. The statements seemed to center around ‘freedom’. I feel the same freedom when I ski. Before I felt that skiing and snowboarding were so different and now I understand that we experience the same feeling in different ways.
