I am fascinated with archaeology and anthropology, and I use photography as an outlet for this intrigue. It is an incredible tool that can be used to uncover the materiality and history of objects and places that are usually left behind.
The area photographed is know as the “Big Bend” in South Burnaby, a primarily framing/working class neighborhood nestled between highways and industrial areas. I photographed the range of architecture in the area—a unique mixture of photo-documentation of artifacts found in the vicinity.
This act of pairing the object with the place initiates a discourse between the couples; the viewer can create a dialogue with the object and location through their proximity to each other. This comparison still allows for some openness to the interpretation of the narrative in that it invites the audience to devise their own story.
