My work deals with the individual body in contrast to the idealized imagery of the “perfect” human body. Seamlessly mixing images of the human body with fashion mannequins creates a hyper surrealism where the deconstruction, then reconstruction of the mannequin and the human body symbolizes and references two different aspects. The first “man-made” mannequin becomes a symbol for the constructed idealization of the female body and refers to a materialistic society, which is fabricated and motivated by money and power. The second aspect represents the fragile, vulnerable individual, that person behind the fashion model and every woman affected by this constructed, unnatural and unhealthy female body idealization. On a technical level relating to the current shift from film to digital, I’m exploring the possibilities and methods of combining the two by utilizing aspects of both in a way that enables me take it to the next level in terms of qualities that exceed the other. With this body of work my intention has been to study our contemporary experience of the female body and through my work reveal a poetic and sometimes “macabre” world.
