The DWS is a concept designed for independent hand-propelled wheelchair users who rely on their wheelchairs in order to function. The human body is made to move; no one is designed to be in one position at all times unless you are dead. Current wheelchair designs force users to sit in an upright position for long periods of time making it very uncomfortable and causing problems to skin tissues, bone, and overall health. It has been proven that if the user is allowed to recline, it relieves pressure spots and stress from the body, allowing the user to relax. The DWS is inspired by current task chair technology. It allows the user to explore various positions of recline, recline tension, angle adjustment of both the back rest and seat rest planes, and more. The DWS is essentially a marriage between task chair technology and the traditional qualities of an ultra lightweight, compact, and sporty hand-propelled wheelchair design.
