The shin guard serves as a great impact dampener in terms of withstanding impact from a rubber projectile (puck) traveling over 100 miles per hour, as well as slashing hockey sticks, and collisions at high speeds. However, the means of protection or impact resistance often compromises the user’s mobility.
The redesigned shin guards aim not to relate impact resistance only with “impact dampening”. Other means are used and regarded, such as, dispersing impact. The results of the design address the problems of bulkiness, breathability, and weight of the product. Another problem the redesigned shin guards will address is the neglect of kinetic anatomy; the shin and the knee section of the shin guards will not be restricted to a single pivotal point.
