I wondered if design could be practiced like photography: achieving a pinnacle by finding balance among pairs of inversely proportional parameters. In photography, every aspect you gain requires you to give up something else. You make a series of value judgments and hone in on some kind of optimum. I speculated that design could be practiced the same way, because design is also about trade-offs, making choices among interrelated aspects, and knowing that favouring one thing means sacrificing another.
