This 10 minute dramatic film traces the internal journey of a 12-year old girl Shane, who has always wanted to be a boy. However, her dream of becoming a boy is broken when she reaches puberty. In grade 6, the observation of her female classmates’ growing bodies triggers her anxiety because she realizes that she cannot control the natural progression of her emerging feminine traits. She becomes very depressed and starts to resist taking a bath and seeing her self-image in the mirror. In the final scene, a film about a female military figure catches her eye. The female soldier’s unhidden masculinity and shaven head fascinate and strike her, making her realize that a female body and masculinity can coexist within her and inspiring her to get a haircut. She begins to accept her growing body and see herself in the mirror again.
