Not very often in life do you come across someone as special as Jim Rimmer. Through our friendship, I’ve been fortunate enough to learn much about printing and typography. Most importantly, I was inspired by something I wasn’t expecting—hand craftmanship. Jim’s ability to turn raw materials such as lead to form precise type forms is an amazing sight to see. His craftsmanship in printing and binding wonderful books is a tradition we rarely have an opportunity to experience, and Jim is one of the few people who possesses these skills. I wanted to share the rich learning experience by creating a photo-documentary. The book was created as large as possible so the viewer could escape into the photographs to enjoy the very same experience I had.
