The conception of We Thieves publication began with casual observations and artistically driven discussions concerning the seemingly fragmented, while vaguely defined realm of Canadian arts and culture.
What began as a “communication experiment” has materialized onto a more tangible pursuit: the exploration of Vancouver “creatives” and their creations. (Filmmakers, artists, designers, photographers, both students and working professionals.)
We Thieves seeks to find, not fabricate a view of the artist and their work. This initial communication was established through a series of 12 artist-specific, self-conducted interviews in the form of mail/correspondence packages, the rationale being that a less conventional, carefully considered approach would encourage participation, and a response in an undetermined/less predictable format.
