The edges that define our bodies change each day—sometimes gradually and sometimes abruptly. Designed especially for people who have experienced limb loss, Limbus (Latin: border or boundary) initiates an uncommon and provocative healing journey through the physical boundaries that define us and the energetic boundaries that exist…beyond our skin.
Recognizing that the majority of amputations result from trauma—and not disease—during the so called productive “school and working years”, Limbus is the prototype for a communication tool that addresses the emotional and psychological issues impacting a person with limb amputation that can be buried beneath the overarching challenge to reclaim physical independence and resume their former life.
Written and designed in collaboration with patients and healthcare professionals, this discovery tool uses illustrations to explore some of the ideas that shape the concept of what it means to be “whole” and what it means to “heal.”
